Recently, in the past time I have started watching vijay tv’s talk show called “NEEYA NAANA“. Gopinath is the show runner also, he decides the travel the ship. This show mainly targets the corporate people on a major share and college students shares next. This show is truly based on what you feel and what you talk on certain views that gets discussed.
Job of the show runner is to make the people fall on their emotions and burst out with their emotional views. The recent show was on the topic “Does Astrology really adds flavour to the life (or) its just an another business to travel on with.”The show was started and various people really had their views and some experts on astrology also came and had their views. For any topic pros N cons will be there and for the same two groups of people also will be there.
Absolute vulnerable part of this show lies at the show runner who really takes advantage in hurting and insulting people views. After all the show is about to express their personal views. But this guy takes an advantage on them, and these people are not realizing that. I was wondering how a show runner can do like that by suppressing their views jus like that. Also this show is a new generation of patti mandram where the final judgement would be very neutral. Then why talk show? Why emotions burst ? why hurting people ? Finally why unbiased judgement.
As on my personal opinion these kinds of shows should be banned, tickling up all your emotions and without knowing what will happen, people are letting the very long hidden truths. To extend my comment on the show runner, he should not take added advantage of insulting the views of the speaker.

It is the heights of stupidity, that you ask the show to be banned…. hope u dont follow that well. Gopinath behaves as neutral as possible… as an anchor he behaves well and conducts the show very well…one more imp thing is that there was never a concrete judgement.. i think thats good as well….may be in some shows there would have been some judgements but those were also for good… cos, ultimately its an entropy where every kind of people live..and have their own views…Its also a great wonder w.r.t Tamil TV channels that they have not COPIED this prog.. probably they cud nt quite get it right to organise & make it as successful as Vijay TV’s. when you talk abt emotions…bla..bla..bla… why are u bothered, infact these are situations that every other person would also be in…(on both sides), so it is good that these topics are spoken out & feelings understood…..in the same spirit of Neeya Naana, one would let go your “ki..ki…gi…gi…ti…ti”.. cos you are one of the kind with probably a small set of followers..I hope you are not from one of the competing TV channenls….good luck mate..but a bad topic to raise…
@sankar, I am not from any of the competing channels btw, I am a normal viewer has my own perception abt the show, pbly it may be liked by the other cadre of people. Generally when your emotions get busted out, people tend to be more open hearted, without knowing what they are talking and later they realize, it should not have been done. Some of my friends, actually participated in that and gave me the same feedback. There is absoulutely no use of having such a talk shows, its all to set up an hype for a media to continue for a long run.
Will definitely be updated with mar 16th neeya naana show, The topic is bosses and employees. Who dominates? and what happens.
See .. the real idea of that talk show is to make people share their views and understand each other. Each person in the world has very confined views and opinions on any particular matter. In order to break the wall between people, such shows are essential. Obviously emotions will burst on sensitive issues. But the anchor of the show takes care of it and he tries to balance. Don’t see the show with some reserved thoughts about the anchor. Pre-occupation wont make the things clear. Some people in the show are too open and discuss. And indeed some of my misconceptions got cleared by the show.
Watching this show is far far better than useless new Tamil films with no story and full of vulgarity.
Your complaint is that Neeya Naana boils up the emotions of the participants. I don’t know if you have seen Arattai Arangam & Makkal Arangam. Instead of talking, most of the time people come and tell their sad stories and most of such shows is about charity. Neeya Naana is more casual and honest than any other talk show. I think you believe in Astrology and probably you got hurt by the comments of some participants. Give us a few examples of where Gopinath has insulted the participant and riled up the emotions unnecessarily.

To the point on other talk shows, they also do the samething and at some point of time they are helping the poors by form of donation and also by other means. For certain people they have also offered free education. I still doubt whether you have watched that show. But atlast i end up hating that program though they offer good things to poor cadre.
All we know is , this world is a mixture of good and bad, so for the sake of talking some neat topics, allow it to discuss and atlast what is the use of telling the very neutral judgement which we know by default. watch some of his topics like itpeople, arrange marriage or love marriage, astrology, bosses vs employees. You will atleast come to know what i mean.

Well, all have an opinion. The objective of any talk show is make the show as much interesting as possible. You can never say something which fully favours one side since there is no proper black & white. It is only shades of grey..
And the emotional outburst of the responders reminds me of a quote – the more the emotion, less the people understand about it! 🙂

I wonder how could say this one as stupidity shows while you agree other talk shows are doing good…….well first of all you should understand it is just a TV programme on some interesting topics to entertain people at the same time to increase the people understandings to accept the opposite good opinions and i have never seen a anchor like gopinath……..because he is the wonderful person to handle the emotional points and difficult situations and to stand as a representative for both sides………And in one show he also mentioned that its not a patti mandram and its not a programme to fight………its a programme to get a chance to understand other people opinion and to understand some social issues from some experts………MY kind advice to mind your words while talking in public…….

I can really understand the tv shows are for entertainment, but what is the real essense in that. There are many forms of entertaining shows on air. What I’m trying to say is all about the sickest thing is all about very unfair talking and leaving people in embarrassment situation. BTW, Gopinath really never understands the emotional value of a person rather, he provokes people to be so emotional and they go blind and he loves it.
I don’t know how you support this, but as I’m concerned it is a stupidity show and I have every rights to say a critic.

The purpose of this post here is just to tell, how the anchor pull the words out the mouth from the people and at one point of time, people really dont know what they are talking and they literally end up in fight which is useless. Moreover other stupid shows are arattai arangam, makkal arangam, and some useless talk show in raj tv. I don’t like the way he provokes the public to converse.

Partly agree with you. Gopinath is indeed over powering to the extent that he restricts the freedom of individuals .

The purpose of this show is to get people talking about issues. You get to know information that you were not aware of as well as knowing both sides to a story. Of course, everyone will be in favor of on side of an issue, but after hearing the arguments on both sides, you get a pretty comprehensive analysis of the issues.
The show runner does not insult people or suppresses their views, but stimulates and triggers their emotions and feelings so that they can speak what is really in their mind, instead of speaking what they think everyone will agree on.
You need to get out the long hidden truths, otherwise how will people know their own assumptions, bias and prejudice. This is an opportunity for them to get off their chest what they have been trying to say all along, but couldn’t because of their family, society or whatever the reason may be. Also, many of us can relate to what people say in this program. How can you claim this program is useless?
You need shows like these so that we can get to know people’s assumptions, biases, prejudices, values, character, and makes us aware of the implicit do’s, don’ts and taboo in our society.

To be very honest, Neeya Naana is one of my favourite shows. Every week I look forward for this programme. Host Gopinath makes the entire show very exciting. He is so eloquent in his speech, very presentable and tactful. Moreover, his pleasant personality adds glamour to this very much liked talk show.
I am disturbed by the adverse comments by a viewer who called it a ‘STUPIDITY SHOW’. I think it takes one to know another. I am sure any sane person would genuinely agree with me that NEEYA NAANA is a show worth watching. It is also a show where the whole family can watch without any discomfort. WHY? Many of the Good Thinking People / Good Attitude People are unable to express their words sentences properly in front of 1000+ peoples and (Or) They won’t do that.
Many of the People who having worst attitude, Negative ambitions, Negative thinking, they can express their words / sentences very clearly and try to collect the people below under their legs and gaining.
But very few, Countable People who’s having good thought, Good Attitude, Good Knowledge, Good Expression of all the things which they have in their mind and can be escalate the things properly / deliver the speech Vigorously in front of 1000+ people with Very Bold, Aggressive, Honest & Trustworthy……..Gopi is like this kind of Person.
And Gopi is being dealing with people in a good manour only and if you watch closely you can notice one thing, he use to give equal treatment to all the persons and he tries to reduce the argument timing by the way of cutting the people argument time and change the direction to other persons, May be this seems to be ‘Gopi’ not treating people in a good manor’…. No …that’s wrong thinking by others….Please correct it

The point i meant in my post is all about provoking speech by the show runner where the participants are got provoked. Its not like that they wanted to, but certain things c0me out without their knowledge. Basically their instinct reacts more faster than the brain. At this point i tried to tell, the certain people make loose talks and get in to the problems unneccesarily. Also the human values are getting reduced to the people in that show. Frankly speaking for mass media attraction, in one of the show literally two people were fighting and that has got relayed on air. There is no place for ethical values and its all bcos of provoking speech by the show runner. Whats the end result of talking or fighting abt a topic which noway leads to nothing @ the end of show.
Those who have good mentality and attitude, will like the programme “Neeya naana” a lot !!! Gopinath has good grasping, presence of mind, very sharp and he is excellent show runner as well. Its a programme where people can share their thoughts and their views. I request you to stop posting your negative comments repeatedly and start thinking better. All the best!

If you feel its stupid and felt saying in public forum its your choice. But I believe that Gopi is trying to do his best. More over you should understand that people coming to the stage are opted and not forced, not pulled by him, they do really come forward to talk. then why do you worry about their emotion?

Its probably your view and comments about that show. But as far as me, i like that show a lot and many people do. Thats why the show was so popular which you can very well see from the comments you have received.
I never saw a judgement in this show, but just a summary given. Ofcourse now and then there are lot of commercial aspects coming into picture to attract people which cannot be denied and its unavoidable though.
Nothing is 100% perfect, try to take better positive aspects of this show and write a comment to them about your view of making it better. Don’t just bluntly blabber words. If you think there is nothing positive in this show better stop watching it.

Many peple like this show… and espescially the show runner, Mr.Gopinath runs the show very well.. till date he hasnt imposed his personal views or opinions.. and he doesnt suppress and or ignores others opinion.Its very difficult to carry out such a talk show so successfully. I think u haven’t watched the show frequently and have special grudge over that poor fellow.
@ all, The show title itself does’nt make any sense, Neeya Naana Its like whether You R rite or I am rite, so when people starts talking it would rather ends up in ego clash. I never meant anything personally against the showrunner or about the show. Its my perception that these kind of shows should be avoided. When you go up to extreme, i see even married couples sitting opposite to each other and starts fighting for a silly reason which they can easily talk to themselves and solve that prolbm. Why the hell they should try to bring it to the media. Anyways, thanks for the response from the people. Also i see enuf people are ready to donate money to few orphanages thru this show. Hats off the gopinath, and I would definitely try to contact him for your kind heartedness so that you can help the needy people.

today i watched the show which deals btwn parents and children. the show is excellent and gave some really worth points

I like this show. But, I do find that sometimes people out of emotion, unknowingly hurt others. In a recent episode, one of the guest said “Shut up” to a participant. In another episode, a girl from one team said, “I will not marry a fool like you” or something of that sort.
I would’ve had more respect for Gopinath, if he would’ve interrupted those kinds of comments as soon as it happens.
Otherwise the show is fun to watch.

One of my Friend sent me this movie review, i thought of sharing with all of you.
” I would like to share my disgusting experience when I had taken part ( so called participation ) in Vijay TV NEEYA-NAANA talk show, with all of you.
I had registered for this program through SMS, I got a call from these guys about a week later and they had asked me to come for a shoot last Saturday (14 Jul 07) ,at AVM studio Vadapalani . I was really excited about my participation in this program , as this is a very popular talk show considered to be pretty nice.
I had great expectations about the arena where the show is being filmed , but to my shock the floor where the show was filmed was like a cave , no A/Cs and not even fans, I was literally sweating for the entire 3 and half hours of the shoot. when we had asked to switch on the fans they say that the fans will cause unnecessary noise in the recording so we will not turn it on .
Even after spending 3.5 hrs like this, most of the people who were invited to participate in the show were not allowed to express their views . In both the teams (for and against teams) they had people who were hired and paid to speak, the mic was circulated to only these people.
There was one other participant like me who had lost his patience and forcedly asked for the mic to the host GOPINATH (the guy in this image below), his reply was look here Boss, you dont direct/advice me how to carry out the show, thats what for I m being paid forplease keep quiet and wait till I give the mic to you.
This incident was more nerve wrecking, there was a blind man who had come to take part in this show, he was also trying to seek for a chance to get the mic and express his views, seeing this the production team had approached this blind man and had scolded him and said him not to shout for the mic when the camera is rolling as this would cause unnecessary editing sequences. This was the worst demotivating response I have ever seen ,that too towards a visually impaired person who has come with all hopes to speak out.
The whole show was a fabricated one , all made up , the final verdict of the debate was decided even before the discussion had started , and the host Gopinath also takes the discussion in such a way giving more priority to the team which they had decided to win. Those people who were paid a sum of Rs.2000/- were evenly distributed among the two teams , and these people drive the discussion , all others are called to just fill up the seats.
The sole intention of such programs is to make money and not at all serve for the real social awareness what they claim to do. Its all commercialism behind these shows.
Normally this NEEYA NAANA team visits IT and ITES companies in the city and hunt for people to take part in their so called talk show, I humbly request all of you to not encourage this team even to enter your office premises ,and please dont encourage such fabricated talk shows by either taking part in their SMS opinion polls or by nominating to participate in it or even watching it. @ Karthi, choosing/keeping Names, nice names and bad names should not be a problem, the name we earn the matters most to me. If i want to get popular in blog then i would have started criticising all the things simply to gain the popularity, but i have commented on those which i dont like, that doesnt mean that i m walking towards the popularity/blogs stats count. Perception differs, and at the same time, comments differ. be patient and try to understand whats their in the blog and

some times he try to create a big drama in the name of reality show…

This show is currently run by Gopinath in fantastic way. He has a potential to become great influence on the people of TN if he takes up more social issues along with whatever he takes. In US there are many talk show on all kinds of subjects but Oprah show stands out because of here social inclination. I wish Gopinath takes that path and become a good influence on people, society, politics etc.

I have been watching this show for a while now. Barring a few episodes, I can confidently say that I have watched all the ‘Neeya Naana’ programs. I have also seen a few episodes of the other program ‘Nadanthathu enna’ hosted by Gopinath in Star Vijay.
Here are my positive views on this show.
1) This is the only show in Tamil television industry that is meaningful and appeals to an educated audience. It has the courage to take up many (if not all) meaningful topics that are relevant in current issues in India and Tamil Nadu.
2) As far as I have noticed, the show seems to be politically neutral and the owners of this channel Star Vijay also seem to be politically neutral. This allows for a reasonably agenda free debate into different topics.
3) The entire think-thank behind this show seem to be well prepared about each topic they are discussing. A lot of background homework has been done on each program and this helps to elevate the standard of discussion.
4) Gopinath seems to be quite intelligent and he along with the others in his ear piece (yes, he uses an ear piece and is prompted and assisted throughout the show) are able to quickly recover from tangential comments by participants.
5) The show has created a lively space for discussion and more importantly has made people think about current issues. Seeing this show helps is get the pulse of the people in Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
6) One of the amazing things about this show is that it is able to balance both the technical and emotional content well. And especially in India, where controversy and people’s sentiment and sensitivity do not go well, this show stands out and is able to balance the emotional aspect of the discussion excellently. This is clearly lacking in many other programs in India. I would even go on to say that the strong point of the show is their ability to manage its emotional aspect.
I must admit that this is one of my favorite shows, but here are my criticisms or suggestions. After all you would not waste time criticizing shows that you don’t care about!
1) It is one thing that the think-thank is well prepared, but it is another thing, if they are too prepared and are conducting the show, points and dialogues along a path they already fix, even before the participants can express their thoughts. It is a rigidity caused by over preparation that prevents the flow of new ideas inside. My suggestion is that the organizers should be open to things that they might not have thought about!
2) Just like the survival of the fittest, it seems to me that the person with the most vigorous intent to grab the mike gets to speak. Although I must admit there is some effort by Gopinath to give an equal opportunity to everyone, it does not work out very well. I am not able to decide on the best strategy in this situation, but I can say that the system of mike rotation can be improved.
3) As many of you suggested, I do agree with that fact that Gopinath tries to trigger up some emotions in people and makes a conscious effort to sensationalize his show. But to be fair this is a television show and is geared for entertainment, ratings and stuff. However, I do feel that since the show is pretty well established now and has a big fan following, he can now safely remove the sensationalization part or atleast decrease it. To the contrary, it seems to me that sensationalization has infact increased although only slightly in recent times.
4) I am not particularly impressed with the selection of judges in his show. Sometime really knowledgeable people such as good thinkers, doctors, psychiatrists, scientists are hosted, which is a good thing. But more often than not, people from the cinema industry are hosted. For example what expert comments does a couple in the cinema industry have to say about love after and before marriage? I find that silly and frankly again I think they are trying to add some entertainment value to the show. I would definitely support the idea that the entertainment value of the judges should not be taken into consideration while selecting them.
5) While the show has stayed clear of many controversial topics, it does fail at times to look deeper and closer at many of the current issues. The real problems and the real culprits are at times (only at times, not often times) not broached upon. I feel that with the capacity and the reach and the current think-thank, they can go deeper into issues, or atleast mention it so that the viewers are aware of these things.
6) One of the criticisms about this show that I have heard from many of my friends is that the topics are very polarizing in nature. More often than not people are not as polarized in their opinion as the topics are, however they force themselves to be polarized to be in their team and are later put in a tough spot. It would be livelier to have slightly less polarizing topics which people can relate to and try and defend more easily.
7) I noticed that as with all programs, there is considerable editing in the show. As we all know editing can do a lot of things to a video. You can film a 3 hour video and then while editing, spin the story as you want it presented. This is one of my major criticisms. If you see some of the best talk shows from BBC, you will notice that they are unedited clips. These are more authenticated and cannot be modified in any shape or form. I agree that this is not easy, but I am sure that Gopinath and his team can definitely accomplish this with more effort. This would really elevate the quality of the program and ward of many criticisms.
Finally, I am surprised by Raj’s comments. Raj has been live on the show before and he describes that there is some fabrication in the show. We can all agree that most shows have some sort of a fabrication in the form of organizational leads inserted in the crew. However, Raj seems to indicate that the situation is more extreme than what is acceptable within reasonable realms. I am not sure how far this is true, but if this is the case, it definitely is disappointing. Just to be on the safer side, I always take things with a pinch of salt. However, I noticed that many people are very passionate about this show which is a good thing, but in the light of this revelation it would be advisable not to get too carried away with it.
All said and done, it still is one of the better shows in Tamil television and I have always enjoyed watching it and I hope to do so in future as well.

I am also one of the regular viewer of this pgm, most of them r here express their feelings by scolding the person Sami. But actually we failed to think & analyze the outcome of such shows.The way they r used to handling the participants may be some wat nice to watch n nice to hear but wat is actually behind the screen. You may watch, in so many shows there r no. of participants r sitting idle & no. of times they r not allowed to express their feelings fully(for this they can say time consuming ).Most of the time the participant come out with truth they will insert advertisement break. I watch this trick in most of the shows & after the break the speaker is not continued their speech.According to me Gopinath is such a nice person personally.He decide the output of each show. By his way of talking, he moves the participant towrds the desired output. In some event he wll neutralize by nofiying guests thoughts.Whatever it is this is one of the show that is beneficial to the star channel mgmt. not to our society. For example in one show the r debated about “Education “.I expect they will discuss somany facts about the fees roberry. But there is no such truths r come out.Friends do u know no where u can see such a fees structure in anywhere of the world except our country especially in our Tamil Nadu.Everybody knows for an engineering seat in a familiar colege u hav to pay upto 15 laks. Every parents know this, y such our Govt too know this. but wat is the use. Like this there r lot to say. But it is not space for that. So in most of the shows real truths r not come out n they r not debated such things. Every one of us r realized this n act for actual truth not for wat they r telling in shows. It is Just Show only. But fact is a lot.
